At Lovu we know that each woman’s fabric taste and preference is different and we provide various fabric options to create something perfect for you. In this article, we cover the two basic fabric categories and touch on the basic fabric characteristics.
Garments are designed and then constructed from stretch or woven fabric options. The patterns we create for woven fabric options are different from the patterns we create for stretch garments. For a basic explanation, we are going to divide fabric options into stretch fabrics and woven fabrics. They are constructed differently. Which gives them their unique attributes. The main thing to remember is that stretch fabric (also called a knit even though it’s not knitted like stereotypical jersey) and woven fabric fibers are constructed more like a net so they don’t have “give” to stretch. The thickness of the fabric is determined by the width of the strands.

Slinky (Stretch)
This fabric sounds as if it would only be for women with perfect bodies. Actually, the best thing about it is its ability to drape, just skimming the body in a way that does not accentuate figure flaws. This fabric is flattering for all body types.
Slinky acetate jersey fabric is the ultimate fabric for figure-hugging garments such as dresses and jumpsuits. It’s super stretchy with great recovery which means it fits the body like a glove and makes for a long-lasting garment. The mottled texture gives this fabric a beautifully unique finish.
